AIPLA’S Europe and Women in IP Committees unite!

Every year, AIPLA’s IP Practice in Europe Committee meets with various IP organizations in Europe, and for the first time, in June 2015, incorporated a women’s breakfast with IP organizations in London, Paris and Munich. Inspired by the well-attended and celebrated Women in IP Committee breakfasts, the IP Practice in Europe Committee so proudly brought the tradition to each city with the goal of providing an opportunity for women in IP law to build relationships with and gain perspectives from the women in other countries.

Allow us to take you on a quick tour. Our first stop was London, where the breakfast, hosted by CIPA, followed a more formal format being attended by both women and men. This event was promoted as a Diversity breakfast. Breakfast and networking were followed by a few words from CIPA’s and AIPLA’s Presidents, Andrea Brewster and Sharon Israel, with a summary of AIPLA’s WIIP activities provided by Jessica Ergmann prompting a powerful conversation amongst the group.

Our next stop was Paris, where the breakfast, hosted by CNCPI, was very casual, no presentations, simply fantastic conversation over French coffee and croissants. The event was attended by women only, and “girl-power” filled the room.

Lastly, we visited Munich, where similar to Paris, the event, hosted by Taylor Wessing LLP, was casual and attended by women only, in a more intimate setting with an outstanding breakfast spread on a gorgeous roof terrace – ideal for networking with incredibly warm and welcoming women. Each event had its own flavor, depending on the organization’s preference and perhaps the culture of that particular country; however what was undeniably common was the comradery and the genuine excitement about continuing the new tradition!
